I need major help with driving a golf ball?

Question by Mark: I need major help with driving a golf ball?
Basically this is the problem:
I used to be able to drive a ball pretty far (250 – 280 yards) and straight with the exact same driver that I have now. However, that was about 2 years ago, now I have a major slice on my shots (they can literally end up 10-50 yards right of my target line) and the course I play is very narrow. Also I’ve lost distance my drives are now in the region of 180-240 yards (probably something to do with the slice).

I’ve tried a couple of changes to my swing, stance and pre-shot routine and I’m stronger than I was two years ago but still the slice and lack of distance continue. Any tips or good advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks

I would get a lesson from your club pro. Also you should shorten your swing so that your left arm if your right handed or right arm if your left handed should stay straight throughout your backswing. Hope this helps.

have you checked your grip? try using a stronger grip by turning your hands just a little to the right, also sounds like you are cutting across the ball and leaving club face open..be sure you are swinging inside out. if need be you might close your stance just a tad. don’t think about it to much–just have fun.

Lessons are always helpful, so is an equipment change. I personally have 4 drivers, switch back and forth when I need to. I also this year found a matching 3 and 5 wood to my Burrows MAC driver. I have two hybrid irons and will be picking up a Titleist 15 degree hybrid iron as an additional weapon on the tee. Depending on the manufacturer, I can find hybrid clubs from virtually anywhere. The 15 degree hybrid will replace my 1 iron and two iron.

Keep the driver if you like it, get or try demos, use fairway woods, hybrid irons off the tee. Most importantly, just what a pro answered, is get lessons. While in lessons the PGA pro you visit, might also find the driver you did have is wrong for you. Do not give up and keep on hitting the fairways.
